Saturday Long Run 3/20

ifer

Time: 8am

Place: Heil Ranch South parking lot trailhead.

Dave Harrison is the evil ‘route master’ this week.  The long runners are to run 16ish miles (short runners  something less).

Route will be Heil Ranch (south parking lot trailhead) at 8 a.m.  Route goes up Wapati Trail (2.5 miles) to Ponderosa loop, right, to Wild Turkey Trail, to Picture Rock trail which goes to trailhead just outside of Lyons. One way from parking lot to parking lot is 8.5 miles, so round trip it 17 (thus the “16ish” statement above).  If someone was ambitious enough to want to arrange to arrive at Dave’s house early (say 7:20) then we could shuttle a car to the Picture Rock Trailhead lot. Aid station stuff to be left there.  Then the long runners could have an aid station ½ way through the run.

Short runners could choose a one way run to the trailhead with the ‘aid’ station (8.5 miles) and a ride back to the Heil Ranch (south parking area) trailhead in the ‘aid station’.  OR 2.5 miles up Wapati trail, around Wild Turkey Trail (3 miles) and back so around 8 miles.

If anyone wants to volunteer to arrive early to do the shuttle thang, let Dave Harrison know. If you have food for the aid station you could get it to Dave’s office (corner Broadway and Mapleton in Boulder – address below) Friday or before……

Trail Project – 5/8/10 – TENTATIVE

Jim

This is the tentative date for our trail project with OSMP.  They are most likely going to create something specific for us since we are a large group.  I told them we could expect 15-25 people and that we would finalize our count after they come up with the project.  They are looking at a trail project, but it might also be a weed eradication project.

NOTE CHANGE IN TENTATIVE DATE TO 5/8/10.  OSMP WILL GET BACK WITH ME NEXT WEEK.

Saturday Run 3/13/10 – 8am

ifer

When: Saturday, March 13, 8am

Where: Teller Farms, South entrance off of Arapahoe Avenue

Meet at the South side – the parking area off of Arapahoe.  We can run north across Teller Farm, then cross Valmont to continue on White Rocks trail and go to the intersection with the Gunbarrel trail – that is 5.5 miles one way.  So out and back equals 11 miles.  Short distance runners (i.e. – Dave H!) will do something less.

This is a recovery week for most, so enjoy and rest up for next weekend!

Saturday, March 6 Long Run

ifer

When: 8am-11am, Saturday, March 6

Where: Chautauqua Ranger Station

Dave Harrison and I (Wendy) are switching leads this week. I’ve avoided peak bagging and shaded trails for the 17 milers so that you can get distance vs. time in for this week’s long run. I did throw in a few mean climbs though, so get your mental groove on for RATS practice.

If you want something a little more…ahem…intense… reply “I am an animal” (please tell us what kind) and I’ll post an epic route for you. ;-)

I will bring slips of paper with the route description.

.6M Warmup: Walk/jog from the Ranger Station toward Mesa until we meet Bluebell at the Outhouse.

The Long Run:
3.5M: Mesa to Big Bluestem
+ 2.6M (6.1M): Big Bluestem to S. Boulder Creek Trailhead
Parking lot. Good place to stash run supplies. You
should be mentally prepared to climb.
+1.9M (8.0M): South Boulder Creek to Mesa
+0.7M (8.7M): Mesa South (left) to Homestead.
Don’t let this downhill deceive you. Ready to climb?
+2.0M (10.7M): Homestead to Shadow Canyon Intersection
+0.8M (11.5M): Welcome to Shadow Canyon. Take a right instead of climbing; Mesa will be on your left.
+0.6M (12.1M): Turn LEFT on to Mesa.
+0.2M (12.3M): You are on Mesa and have arrived at Big Bluestem
+3.5M (15.8M): Follow Mesa from Big Bluestem/Mesa Intersection back to Chautauqua.

.6M Cooldown: Walk or Jog into the Ranger Station from Mesa.

17M Total including Warmup and Cooldown.
_______________________________________

The Short Long Run for Taperers and 10 milers:
3.5M: Mesa to Big Bluestem – Turnaround and return.
8.2 Total including warmup and cooldown.
